Farragut Elementary offers a wide variety of programs that enrich the education - and the lives! - of our children. Most of them are supported by the generosity of time and resources provided by our families.
The Fan Club raises funds to provide children with visual arts instruction with our part-time Artist in Residence, Janet Seigel. Mrs. Seigel teaches bi-weekly 45 minute art classes to children in all grades levels. Students experience different visual arts mediums and explore their own creative potential.
First Grade Teacher Patti Eskridge offers two extraordinary before-school music programs - Hand Bells and Choir. These popular free programs are open to all and provide fun and enriching opportunities for students of all ages to express themselves musically as part of a group.
Originally funded by the generosity of the Culver City Downtown Business Association, Farragut's Fox Garden helps the children learn healthy eating habits while developing an understanding of how food is produced - all in a program that is integrated with their class lesson plan.
The Farragut Fan Club is dedicated to ensuring our children benefit from exposure to a wide range of musical styles. We also feel it's important that the kids get a chance to experience what it's like to play it, too!
The Farragut Fan Club covers all expenses to fund our school's computer lab including equipment, technology servicing and upgrades, and an instructional aide. All grade levels have computer lab time scheduled as part of their school curricula embracing subject areas from reading and mathematics to art and history.
Dozens of Farragut parents participate in Career Day, describing the incredible spectrum of opportunities the children have before them. It's also a great chance for parents to see the incredible spectrum of wonderful children in our school!
REFLECTIONS is a creative competition in the Arts sponsored by the national PTA. It provides the Farragut PTA with a wonderful opportunity to offer additional arts instruction outside of the school curriculum.
School "Families" is a program that is unique to Farragut School. A Family consists of a group of kindergarten through fifth grade students who are lead by one of our teachers. Families meet several times a year; students are part of the same family as long as they attend Farragut Elementary. The goal is to establish relationships across grade levels and to provide opportunities for older students to mentor younger students.
Each Family session is focused on the Six Pillars of Character Program. Students discuss various topics, share ideas, do activities, or perform school services based on the trait of the month.
The Family experience culminates in the spring with Family Sports Day. Each child's "family" is assigned a color and they compete in games and physical activities with their family against other Farragut Families. Family Sports Day is a really fun event for all involved. As always, many parent volunteers are needed to make this a super, team-building experience for the kids. Please consider coming out to volunteer to help that day and cheer your child's family on to victory.
